A day in the life of Earl
That was a nail biter. Almost as much so for those of us watching from a distance and relying on Webcams and text messages for constant updates.
Despite St. John’s face-to-face encounter with Hurricane Earl, there was remarkably little damage left behind, though boat damage, especially on the South Shore, was high.
If you missed it, or want to relive it, here is a day in the life of Earl – 7 pm Sunday to 5 pm Monday – from Weather Underground as he swept through the Virgin Islands.

WHEW! Is everyone present and accounted for? Hope so. And hope there’s very little damage to our beloved Island and it’s people.

The dingy dock lookls like it took a pounding. Between 1:10 pm on 8/30 and 6:04 am today (8/31) the Spicecam web site had 405,023 visits. There were a lot of people concerned about that little slice of heaven……

I noticed the dock on the spice cam and the number of visitors! Glad to hear the damage was light and hopefully all are accounted for.

How is that beautiful parrot? Did he/she make it through Earl? Our turn, we have warnings already here on Cape Cod for Friday! They are saying to get boats out of the water, have a plan in place and get flashlights ready. (and I think some Cruzan would be nice) so glad STJ is doing ok! Ü

Very glad to hear the island did not take a direct hit but here’s hoping that the next two storms skirt the island as well. Hang on tight and batten down the hatches. See you in November.

glad to hear all is well for the most part.

One of the unfortunate aspects of owning a home on St. John and not being there when something like this happens is waiting to hear what damage occurred. We’re hoping to hear how Skyridge (in Upper Carolina) is today. Fingers crossed!

Good afternoon,
thank god, hopefully everone is ok. including all the animals. the dock got quite a hit, the camera is a little tilted, and some small boats might be battered.
but one thing is for sure, here come those damn *#! flying mosquitoes. also, the serendipity webcam is a little shaken. i would still be an island boy though.

Although we don’t live there full time, the number of hits on the spicecam should let you know how many people care about the island and it’s people.
Here’s to good news for Homer and all the home and business owners!!!!

It sure would be great if someone on the island can take some videos of the aftermath and post them on this site. Just like you do the boat trips. With almost 500,000 hitting the webcam yesterday, you can see how many people care about this beautiful island.

Glad everything is somewhat okay. I had my eye on facebook reports and checking in on webcams.
