A Painkiller’s ingredients must all be the same – rum, Coco Lopez, orange juice, pineapple juice and nutmeg – so we’ll have to judge on other criteria.
Specifically, the kind of rum used, ratio of mixers, presentation and the bartender’s own style.
And, since this is St. John’s Best Painkiller, Jost van Dyke’s Soggy Dollar, which is said to be the birthplace of the Painkiller, won’t be included…but we’ll sure consult with them!
We’ll also be packing on some calories and saturated fat. A standard Pusser’s Painkiller:
Meet stone mason Calis Sewer, and fellow stoner Cougar.
They’ve replaced the Nazareth Lutheran Church’s white picket fence with a beautiful stone wall, perhaps because the church got tired of drivers crashing through the picket fence.
Cougar also cleans cisterns. “Our cistern’s not dirty,” we said. “It will be. Call me when it is,” he said.
If you need a stone wall or a cistern cleaned, email us. We’ll be happy to pass on their numbers.
Meet Courtney and her early 90’s Chrysler LeBaron convertible.
Courtney and her boyfriend have been the proud owners for about a year and, until recently, the only real top it had was handheld.
“We just had a new top put in, but before that my boyfriend would drive us around holding a big umbrella over us if it was raining,” says Courtney. “The door doesn’t open, and the inside is beat up, but it’s the perfect island car for us.”
Who can resist a picture of a pretty girl in a convertible.
Finally, an Occupy movement we can fully support. This one has a concise agenda and clear demands.
Solar Jeff has taken up the Occupy St. John cause, and you can get the t-shirt.
The demands: #1. Cold Beverages. #2. 83 and Sunny. #3. Stir it up!
“Detractors of this grass-roots revolt point out that organizers aren’t clear about their demands,” says Solar Jeff, aka Jeff Smith. “Well, here on St. John, we like our demands simple and as these cute Woody’s girls demonstrate, our demands are already met.”
Continue to fight for the cause anyway. T-shirts available at Tall Ship Trading in Coral Bay, Iguana Grill and, by mail order or in person at St John Spice in Cruz Bay.
St. John’s 2012 American Cancer Society Relay for Life is just a few months away, and Woody’s is planning another block party to raise money for it again.
And if you think Woody’s gets crowded at Happy Hour, click on the picture above from last year to see how successful that block party was.
The Save Second Base block party is scheduled for November 5, from 7 pm to 11 pm, and is sponsored by Buzz Radio and Bellows International. Woody’s promises raffle prizes, satellite bars, Jell-O shots and live entertainment.
The St. John Relay also has its own logo for 2012, being sold as bumper stickers, posters and banners. The logo was created by Grace Bartolucci, a senior at Antilles School, who plans on going to the Savannah College of Design to study graphic design next year.
Proceeds from sticker and poster sales will also be donated to the cause.
This year’s St. John Relay for Life, in February, raised over $140,000. Check out pictures from February, here.
