Jumbie has always been my favorite
January 19th, 2012 07:13
Mine too!
January 19th, 2012 07:16
Great question but it depends on why I am going to the beach. To sit and relax in the sun I like Maho. To snorkel I like Haulover and Hansen. To see turtles I like Waterlemon. To see friends I like Hawksnest. For a lovely early morning coffee I like Jumbie.
I have reasons for liking every beach on St John. But my favorite swimming site is diving off the side of our sailboat.
January 19th, 2012 07:47
i was trying to decide between little lameshur and francis…I LOVE them both….. but little L is it.
January 19th, 2012 08:02
Lameshur or Vie’s because they are always calm and uncrowded.
January 19th, 2012 08:57
Gibney Beach. Number one reason, that’s where we were married. Number two reason, great relaxing, swimming and the snorkeling ain’t bad either.
January 19th, 2012 09:09
Gibney Beach by far-picture perfect, a pain to get to, . Why is it not on the list?
January 19th, 2012 09:37
I also love all the beaches of STJ, but I chose Salt Pond because it is seldom crowded and you can almost be guaranteed of seeing a turtle or two which is always my highlight of snorkeling.
January 19th, 2012 10:24
I also vote for Gibney Beach, but I’m actually quite glad it’s not on the list. Drawing more attention to this beach is pretty much the last thing anyone who lists this beach as their favorite would want to do. Those who love it probably know exactly what I mean…
January 19th, 2012 10:30
So far I have only been to a handful of those beaches, but one day it will be all! Until then, Maho Bay is the one place on this earth where I have felt truly tranquil.
January 19th, 2012 10:42
They all have their particular qualities, but it really depends on your state of mind at the time and who you are with. I will never forget the way my beautiful girl looked, and how happy she was on Maho Beach that day. So it will always be my favorite.
January 19th, 2012 15:22
Gibney, and agree with Tom and Martha. So hard to pick just one and Gibney is a pain to park. Maho is great but only if the boats stay out where they are supposed to stay at a mooring ball.
January 19th, 2012 15:26
Well, I have been coming to the island for over 23 years – it is really hard to narrow it down to one beach. When we stayed at Caneel Bay – our room was on the “private” Trurle Bay which I believe was the best BUT, now that we own at the Westin, we like to rent a jeep and take a different adventure each day. I have to say that Gibney is my personal all time favorite! My husband would say he needs snorkeling activity, I just need the sun and the blowup float. Make a perfect day!
January 19th, 2012 15:42
I visit my sweet, sweet Salomon almost daily…no way I could vote for any other beach. That said, they’re ALL spectacular…and although it’s trendy for the locals to avoid Trunk, it’s still a cut above the rest in my humble opinion.
January 19th, 2012 16:36
Whichever STJ beach I’m on at that time is my favorite beach…..
January 19th, 2012 16:40
Trunk Bay, it’s just a spectacular beach. Great French Fries too.
January 19th, 2012 17:40
Francis…hands down long long beach always can have a private day….
January 19th, 2012 18:59
Francis for coffee… ahhh
Oppenhimer/Gibney for lunch, book and a nap…. ahhh
Lameshur and the turtles at sunset….. ahhhhh
it depends on the time of day… who we are with..
January 19th, 2012 19:10
Greg and Dale,
Your words echo my thoughts precisely.

Also wanted to vote Gibney but could not remember the name, that’s how low key it is…but Maho is also my happy place that I think of on cold dreary winter days. Really I love them all as long as there are no cruise ship taxis in sight.
January 19th, 2012 21:09
I’m with Greg, Dale and Bob – it is definitely Gibney. But shhhhh let’s keep it quiet!
January 20th, 2012 07:23
Gibney! I am surprised it is not on the list. I bet if it were, you would get a ton of votes for it!
January 20th, 2012 08:11
And one more thing re Gibney. Greg, Dale and Patr I’m sure you know my trick for capturing the best parking spot near the entrance. We’ll keep that one well guarded.

Trying to choose a favorite beach on st john is like trying to choose a favorite child. You love them all the same. But my favorite is salomon because of its seclusion.
January 20th, 2012 09:49
Oppenheimer!
January 20th, 2012 10:07
Cinnamon!
January 20th, 2012 17:16
Waterlemon, first time was on our 25th anniv., swam with a turtle, Lameshur, because access. Maho for swimming. Any one right now.
T-minus 21 months & counting each day!
January 20th, 2012 19:08
Maho, Gibney/Oppenheimer, Salt Pond, Jumbie, Vie’s……….decisions, decisions:). I agree about Gibney, let’s keep it below the radar.
January 21st, 2012 08:47
Jumbie is my fav. for peace and quiet. Cinnamon is great for an all day beach bum event because of bathroom, showers and food. Trunk is nice at sunset. All the beaches on STJ are awesome and have their own little niche’ and I will be laying upon one in a rum soaked haze in 5 days! smiling…
January 21st, 2012 09:36
Maho Beach is leading- REALLY? With all the sand flies? REALLY?
January 21st, 2012 12:43
I’m with MIT on this one, and how about all of those dump and water trucks going past pumping all of that diesel exhaust out on you.
January 21st, 2012 16:39
How can you have an election without Gibney?? And by Gibney, I mean Oppenheimer as well. Did it not get enough signatures to make the ballot???
January 22nd, 2012 08:48
There is a very good reason for not including Gib/Opp on the ballot—and I’m not telling.
Bob-NH
January 22nd, 2012 10:29
Francis on Monday, Honeymoon on Tuesday, Denis on Wednesday…..need I go on?
January 22nd, 2012 17:10
Gibney. No question.
January 22nd, 2012 17:11
Maho!
January 22nd, 2012 17:52
The poll was for favorite. Not favorite you don’t mind people knowing about;)
If you don’t know how to park you won’t get to Gibney anyway…
It is quite simply the perfect St. John beach.
Jumbie is a solid but distant second.
January 23rd, 2012 12:08
I have 2 favs, Jumbie and Francis. But, if you really think about it, each one on the list holds something special. But if I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would be Jumbie.
January 24th, 2012 07:42
Each time we visit out beautiful Cape Cod beaches it’s nice, but, someone always comes out and says “this isn’t Maho”!
Each beach does have it’s something special on STJ & Jumbie is anotherone of my favs~
January 25th, 2012 14:22
Another Gibney for reasons above. Shhh! keep it off the list and don’t tell anyone–that’s why it is the best
January 26th, 2012 17:56
Salomon is my fave. For the skinnydipping.
January 28th, 2012 09:36
Any beach on I am on is my favorite at the time. It’s like ask what is your favorite child! You love them all!
I have to St. John’s twice in last 4 years and still haven’t been to them all! So must plan for our third trip!
January 29th, 2012 20:48
Not sure where Jumbie beach is. Can someone tell me, please?
January 29th, 2012 20:49
Where’s Jumbie?
February 1st, 2012 13:42
I vote for Jumbie too!
