No more Fork in the Road

The famous Fork in the Road on Gifft Hill appears to have fallen victim to vandalism or a bad driver.

OSJ reader Martha Toomey first spotted the fallen fork while walking her dog Friday morning.

The Fork in the Road, minus one tine, as it stood for years, below…

What a shame! This is one of those quirky things that says “You’re on St.John.” Was planning on having my picture taken with it when I get down in 6 weeks, so can we start the fund raiser to have it replaced soon? :)

Having seen every episode of “Matlock” I would suspect that if it were a case of a bad driver, there would be some car parts around the scene of the crime…. I bet someone will make a new fork…maybe out of reinforced concrete?

I think this is the third or so time that the fork has suffered a similar fate…. I’m sure it will be reincarnated.

We are pricing it as I write …. We could never let a fork stay idle. I’m thinking of a bake sale in front of St John Hardware….

Stick a fork in it, it’s done. Actually the new fork should be made of plate steel. It will weigh the same and you won’t push it over with anything less than a bulldozer. Looks like a piece of rebar sticking up from the base so it was somewhat reinforced concrete before…

What will they do with the old one? I’m thinking it needs to go in a bar or something…
