What’s wrong with this picture?
Remember the story about Savannah Buffett’s visit to St. John? Her Internet show EX-PATS featured St. John Brewers and included a nice tour of the island.
We thought the show was a lot of fun, but something about this shot struck us as odd. Then we figured it out.
It’s a 5 second segment of video driving down the hill toward the creek in Cruz Bay.
The Lumberyard is on the wrong side of the street.
We checked with the producer, who says he’s not sure why that shot was reversed. At least we confirmed we’re not crazy.

In printing we called it flopped. When a negative was “flopped” over to its wrong side. If it was turned over head to foot it was flipped. Flipping and flopping.

Maybe that’s it Sean. Some editor said “Crap! They’re driving on the wrong side of the street! Can you fix that?”

Wow,this is totally disorienting. That looks like Jake’s in the upper left corner, but looking straight ahead, the only thing that should be there is the circle, not water. Somebody took great liberties with the pictures they shot, but why?

Maybe St. John Brewers sent a couple cases of their very best brew to the folks in the editing room and after a while once the alcohol kicked in everything looked normal backwards…. I’ve heard that too much alcohol can affect vision…so I’m told…
