Where do Caribbean travelers come from?

New York ranks No. 1 on the list of where Caribbean vacationers in North America come from, followed by Florida. But number three surprised us.

It’s Ontario.

That’s among findings in a survey of Caribbean travelers by TripAdvisors’ vacation rental site FlipKey.com.

The week before Christmas, President’s Day week and late-April are the three most popular weeks for travel in the Caribbean, and one week, followed by 8 to 10 days are the most popular Caribbean vacation lengths.

The data doesn’t drill down to St. John levels, but it does rank Puerto Rico and St. Thomas as the No. 1 and No. 4 Caribbean destinations.

Lots of fun facts abut Caribbean travelers from FlipKey.  Check out some of the graphs, here.

How long do you stay on St. John and where are you coming from?

We come from Minnesota and our last 3 trips have been 8 days but are bumping it up to 12 this November. Going forward, I don’t see less than 10 days. Can’t wait to get back to St. John!

I was unaware of this until 2008 when we went to the DR in March and walked straight into the entire population of Canada.

Can’t blame them though…wouldn’t you want to get the heck out of Canada in the winter?

It was funny being what seemed like the only 3 ‘Murcans at the resort.

My wife & I are from Virginia. We have been to St. John 27 times in the past 11 years. We always stay 13 or 14 days depending on our using United miles for the flight. Next trip is in May for 14 days.

Our family of four is from rural Tennessee, and we usually travel in March or April for 7 to 10 days. The best memories so far are snorkeling with our young daughters and the Maho Bay chicken that hid under the driver’s seat of our Jeep and laid an egg as we were driving along Centerline Road……it was a wild ride!

Small town west of Philly. 1st and 2nd trips were for 1 week each. But 3rd and 4th trips I was lucky to be able to stay 2 weeks each. Took alot of hard work and creative planning to manage 2 weeks, but it’s so worth it!

I’m sure the New York traveler number is greatly skewed by the number of “family” visits between NYC and Puerto Rico, DR and such. Probably not what you would consider traditional TripAdvisor vacationers.
