Lunch of the Week: The airport
If you’re not up to the hot protein and starch offerings (the local dishes range from tasty to strange), just grab a salad. They’re fresh and not bad. Like the breaded chicken Caesar salad for $7.
By the way, this is high season. The airport is busy, so plan accordingly.
When you land, they’ll probably tell you to be back 3 hours before your flight leaves. That’s excessive, but two hours is not a bad idea this time of year.
What was your most recent memorable airport meal? We’re certainly willing to stand in line for it.

Yesterday was a very busy day at the airport with many people trying to get back to N.E. before the storm. We bought sandwiches from Deli Grotto to the airport.
Best STT airport lunch ever…

The goat was actually good there – last chance to eat as a local! You can get plenty of chicken salads and burgers back in PA/MA/NY/GA/wherever.

Usually leave in the morning – so I’m an egg and cheese sandwich guy. The rolls are always fresh and it’s pretty tasty. Want an airport tip when the line is snaking down the concourse in front of American? There’s a heavy set sky cap lady at the curb. Give her ur bags, Amex Card, passport and tell her where ur goin. She’ll jump behind the counter and presto! Five minutes later ur walking through Border Patrol with your hands in your pockets just like a “rock star” if you have already filled out ur declaration. I usually give the $5 or $10 bucks. Saves u 40 minutes in line!

I’m with Joppa. Deli Grotto sandwiches this year. Every year we forget and say “we’ll eat at the airport” and always regret it. No more!

You know, I love the Mac n Cheese at the airport, but they don’t always have it. A good substitute? The chicken soup and a johnny cake. Dunk johnny cake in soup, and voilĂ : an edible lunch. (Well, plus one or five Cruzan & Diets.)

Whoops..premature posting…LOL! Deli Grotto’s a great option…and your Sam and Jack’s posting from last week is also another great idea, but the airport salad? The best food to get at the airport is the local food…I don’t even see a crouton!

My husband and I stop at Fish Tails in Red Hook for Smoked fish dip (and a Painkiller) with 2 Deli Grotto Sandwichs in my bag…one to share at the airport (with another painkiller), one to share on the flight back (sans painkiller
).

In November, I had a local rice and chicken dish at the airport and it was very good! Local sweet potatoes were included too. I forget what it was called but it was delicious.
