Pickles in Coral Bay is back
Say hello to Beverly Melius, who is back in charge at Pickles deli and market.
Beverly, a former New York interior designer who moved to St. John in the 1970′s, ran the original Pickle’s for a decade before leasing out the building to various other businesses starting in 2003.
Now she is back, serving breakfast lunch and dinner 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with breakfast burritos and Belgian waffles, deli sandwiches and wraps, and all heavy on the homemade side.
Beverly’s friend, Jean, a commercial fisherman from Alaska, also spends six months a year on St. John and she brings Copper River wild Sockeye salmon to Pickles, 600 pounds of it from her most recent trip. $18 a pound. Frozen now. Shipped down fresh in season.
“I’m amazed at the response since we opened about three months ago,” says Beverly. “We’ve got a lot of Coral Bay customers, but we’ve got plenty from Cruz Bay who come all the way over for our food.”

Sounds nice. Where in Coral Bay is it located? Will stop in and try it out in May.

Pickles is great! It’s nice to have a place like this in Coral Bay. Sandwiches are scrumptious, reasonably priced & generous.

Used to love the old Pickles and can’t wait to return and sample the new Pickles! A good deli in Coral Bay has been sorely missed…

I too would like to know where it is. Is it in the space next to Shipwreck that was recently vacated? Have some trips planned and staying in Coral Bay…sounds like a great place for beach sandwiches.

Copper River Salmon is absolutely the BEST! How do you prepare it? Please save some for us when we get there in August!!

We have missed you during our visits on St. John while you were gone. Every year we wish you were still open. Now you are and we will see you everyday during our visit in July!

Tip top!! We have three deli’s that are a must for our STJ vacation. This place is in the running for the #1 spot. Sam’s or Deli Grotto are the other favorites. I suggest the Natty dread tuna, followed by a afternoon at Little Lameshur.
