St. John in the 1920′s through 1950′s

The St. John Historical Society’s December 10 meeting will include a presentation by SJHS member Valerie Sims, with rare family photos of Life at Estate La Mesure from the 1920′s to the 1950′s.

Both of these pictures, from Valerie, are Lameshure Bay in 1923. (Click to enlarge.)

The presentation is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bethany Moravian Church.

How and when did the buildings get destroyed here?
One of our favorite places to visit.

Ben-I don’t think I know the answer to your question, but I thought it was interesting. So I took a look. The St John Historical Society has at least 3 articles on Estate Lameshure. The first is http://goo.gl/7na359. If I understand correctly, the estate house still exists and is used as a park ranger’s residence. The ruins are the estate production buildings. You can see both on google maps: http://goo.gl/maps/Xyp3p. I’d be very happy if someone could add more, or correct me if I’m wrong.

That green pond west of Europa Bay looks pretty cool… Does anybody go there? Might be a fun spot for a Kayak.
