Update from Tory and Sara's Around the Island Swim

Leg 1 was smooth swimming except for the points.
They were kind of rough and we had to time our breath to avoid  getting a mouthful of water.
One interesting we saw at several places around Lameshur was what looked like stainless steel squares bolted to the reef.
I'm wondering if anyone knows what their purpose is.
As for cool sea life only two turtles.

Leg 2 was a fun swim because we had big swells behind us.
It felt like we were surfing.
Not much for sea animals though.

Leg 3 took us through the deepest water so far going across Rendezvous Bay.
We saw a nice sized eagle ray in Rendezvous.
Right off Bovocoap point we came across a big school of large horse-eyed jacks.
They were curious about us and were all around, it was cool.

Leg 4 we had to cross heavy boat traffic areas.
Luckily we had VIBE charters to escort us.
Our timing was perfect.
There wasn't one boat even close to us at any point crossing Cruz and Great Cruz Bay.
This leg we saw the most life.
A few turtles with remoras on them.
Also several tarpon, and a barracuda by Great Cruz.
An eagle ray, and a few stingrays.
We saw our first shark of the swim, a nurse shark off of Turner Bay.
Then another nurse shark by Solomon beach.
The current in the cut between Turner and Frank Bay was against us, and strong.
If we didn't have fins on,we would not have made it.
We were just barely making ground.
It was quite tiring.

Leg 5 put us up against  an even stronger current.
The cut between Henley Key and Caneel was very hard to get through.
We had to stop and hold on to a rock to rest.
Then sprint to the next rock, and rest again.
It was slow going.
Hawksnest Point had millions of bait fish, and many tarpon.
